Barry Mill

Barry Mill offers a useful opportunity to study the technologies of ages past. It was the last water powered meal mill to work in Angus and it produced oatmeal until the late 1970s and animal feed until 1982. In 1982 the water wheel stopped turning. The current Barry Mill building dates from 1814 as this was when the mill was rebuilt following a fire. However there has been a mill on the site since at least 1539.
Parties visiting Barry Mill can participate in a tour of the property, during which they can see the mill working and have the opportunity to have the milling process explained. Also at the property is an exhibition of the history of Barry Mill, with working models. Handling materials are available as is the Barry Mill Kist (containing original artefacts and source material), resource pack and illustrated guidebook. In addition a waymarked trail leads to the mill pond.
Educational visits are welcome at Barry Mill - to book, please contact the Property Manager on 01241 8567671.
