Archaeology for Schools

Archaeology is the study of people in the past based on the objects (and built structures) they’ve left behind. Archaeologists dig to recover these objects from chosen sites and then use them to interpret what happened there. The objects are recorded and conserved. They may be displayed in a museum or at the historic site. The objects and historic sites help us to understand how people lived in the past.

An archaeologist's work can be divided into four main areas: research, excavation, finds processing, interpretation.
